Set the lights once for the whole season
Holiday lights are the classic job for a dusk-to-dawn timer: the strings come on as the street goes dark and switch off at 10 or 11 at night, every night from Thanksgiving to New Year, without anyone going out in the cold. The plug-in timers carry 2 or 3 grounded outlets, and the timer power stakes carry 6 on a stake in the lawn.
When the lights are spread across the yard, a power stake or the 1-to-3 splitter brings outlets to them so you are not running four cords from the porch. Keep the covers shut on empty outlets, add up the watts of the strings against the rating, and plug the whole setup into a GFCI-protected outlet.
